Saree Ella Waterfall is one of the famous and magnificent waterfalls that flows down the middle of the village of Gomara based on the Knuckles Reserve. This area is popular for a bunch of waterfalls surrounding Hulu Ganga. It is a beautiful sight to see when in full flow. As you can see the waterfall has 2 parts, If you like you can climb the first part without any trouble. On the left side of the waterfall, you can clear a path to climb up. The upper part is about 20 meters high and this part is named Saree Ella Waterfall because it apparently takes the shape of a "sari" (traditional ladies dress). This part about 20m in height. Under the waterfall there is a nice pool, so better go with something to wear for a natural bath.
Best time to visit
It is best to visit from May to August and It is not advisable to travel on heavy rainy days. During the rainy season visits, do not bathe or set a foot on the slippery rocks.
How to reach
Kandy > Madawala > Pinwila > Hulugalla
The best way to go to this waterfall is via wattegama huluganga pannila. Saree Ella waterfall is situated in the central province, Gomara village. From Kandy, there are about 30 km, but it takes more than one hour.It is a 5-minute drive from the Bambarella junction. You can ask directions from locals and can be accessed on any vehicle..1km from this waterfall you can go to jodu ella waterfall.
Be careful when...
- The rocks at the foot of the waterfall are slippery.
- The leeches population is taking a higher percentage in this area.
